There are over hundred different Maldives island resorts all over the country. All island resorts are built on private Maldives islands. You can’t find markets or local villages or shopping street. Yes, it’s just the island and the resort built on it. The Resort itself provides all facilities such as swimming pool, spa, restaurant, bar, sport center, souvenir shop, disco, diving- and water sport center etc. The islands are small and you can walk around in around 5-20 Minutes depending on the size of the Island. There are many kinds of Maldives island resorts.
Before you start to search the internet for the least expensive Maldives vacation deal ask yourself would enjoy most. What are your preferences? Do you want to spend your holidays in a super small island with only a number of guests or do you prefer a larger island resort with lots of activities and facilities. Or maybe you like a mix of both.
If you travel with kids then you preferably search for a resort providing children facilities’ such as a kids club. If this is your honeymoon trip you would rather choose a small and romantic island resort with a good spa. There are even islands in the Maldives where you can play golf. Next step is to decide the accommodation type. In the Maldives you find beach or water bungalows from standard rooms to ultra luxury suites. If you are on honeymoon you preferably choose a water bungalow. By the way, for safety reasons, children under 12 years are not allowed in water bungalows in most resorts. Beach bungalows are recommended when traveling with your family or if you like to stay near the beach. However, if you book a water bungalow, you can anytime stay at the white sand beach since in most islands the beach is for all resort guests. Water bungalows are a bit more costly.
When you book your Maldives vacation I recommend local travel agency’s since they are based in the Maldives with good relationship to the resorts and suppliers. I prefer to support local business and not bring my money to a big tour operator. Normally tour operators are dealing with mass tourism. I choose not to be part of that. Furthermore local Maldives travel agents usually are less expensive then tour operators. We always booked our Maldives Vacation with a local agent and it was always perfect.
Regarding the flight I recommend you to buy it directly online with your preferred airline where you get frequent flyer miles. This is another reason why we don’t book with large tour operator. When booking a trip with a large tour operator they will sell you their own flight and squeeze you into a tide charter. If you book a scheduled flight you get the friendly flight attendants and good service, better food and enough leg space.
The transfers to your island are always combined. Transfers are with speedboat or seaplane depending on the location of the island resort. For speedboat there is normally a maximum of 14 people while seaplane has a maximum of 16 people. I do not recommend to book private transfers because it’s rather expensive and not environmentally friendly.
What is included in your Maldives vacation offer? Normally the offer should include Room, transfer, meals, bed taxes and service charges. However, some special deals have additional services included such as all inclusive plan, excursion, spa session and complimentary honeymoon offers if you are honeymooner.
